Died at age 69, of Lewiston, ID

OBITUARY
5/11/1949 — 8/9/2018

Mary Margaret Alsager Frye passed away at home Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, with her husband, Ron, and family by her side.

Mary Margaret “Maggi” was born May 11, 1949, in Moscow, to Melvin J. Alsager and Cecelia Walsh Alsager, and joined her 2-year-old brother, John, at home. She was a 1967 graduate of Moscow High School and graduated from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane in 1970. Maggi married William B. Ross on June 6, 1970, in Moscow. While Bill attended the University of Idaho, Maggi began her nursing career working for Dr. Al Frostad, a pediatrician in Pullman. They moved to St. Louis in 1972, and Maggi was employed at St. John’s Medical Center as a burn unit nurse. Relocating to Los Gatos, Calif., in 1974, Maggi began as a staff nurse at Alexian Brothers Hospital (San Jose), and moved into nursing administration and became the director of nursing at the hospital. Divorced in 1977, Maggi continued living in Campbell and was very involved with community groups, including the Sunnyvale Sunrise Rotary Club, where she was elected the first female president. In her free time, she enjoyed hosting dinner parties for a friendship group of 12 in San Jose and treasured those long-term friendships.

In 1990, a reconnection with Ron “Simon” Frye, a high school sweetheart, found her returning to north Idaho. They were married at Lake Tahoe on Dec. 7, 1997. Maggi picked the Pearl Harbor date for their marriage so Ron would always remember. After living in Orofino, they relocated to Lewiston and their present home. Maggi was very devoted and committed to helping others in her community, focusing her efforts especially on Willow Center for Grieving Children and suicide prevention, education and support groups. Along with these activities, over the years she worked full time at Valley Medical Center, Idaho State Hospital North, North Central District Health Department, and the Idaho Transportation Department. Maggi retired from ITD as the district business manager in October 2017.

Maggi was always giving and doing for others. Even in illness, she thought of family and friends before herself. Her granddaughters consider her the greatest Nana in the world. Maggi and Ron enjoyed ski vacations, golf, camping on the North Fork of the Clearwater River and travel, and they always included family and friends in their adventures.

Maggi is survived by her husband, Ron, and his daughter, Jana (Jeff) Bronson; granddaughters Hailey and Jaicey Pollilo; Jeremy Frye and granddaughter Savannah; her brother, John Alsage; nieces Kali (Brad) Williams and son Max, Kari Alsager and sons Konnor and Parker; and nephew Simon Alsager.

Maggi was preceded in death by her parents; her nephew, Sven Alsager; and her mother-in-law, Helen Frye.

The family appreciates the help of Kindred Hospice and especially thanks Kay and Samantha for their loving care of Maggi.

The service was at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17 at Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. Condolences may be shared at malcoms@malcomsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Willow Center for Grieving Children in Lewiston or Jackson’s Pay It Forward Foundation.
