Charlotte (Lowry) Riersgard
Address, phone, email
Spouse: Phil Riersgard
Occupation: Dietitian
Summary: Between 30 and 50 I ran a lot of miles and sang a lot of songs; between 50 and 60 I biked a lot of miles and kept on singing; between 60 and now, I read a lot of books (and between 20 and 30....well, never mind.)
News: Phil and I have moved around quite a bit and have enjoyed the surprises and challenges of new places.
I changed careers in my 30’s and became a dietitian. While living in Boise I worked for Meridian School
District as assistant food service director. We moved to Honolulu and I worked at Queen’s Medical Center.
From there Phil’s job took us to Maui and for me an interesting job at Kula Hospital upcountry.
After lots of fun in the sun, family situations brought us back to Spokane and a position at Sacred Heart Med. Ctr.
After 8 years there we joined the Peace Corps and turned 50 in Mongolia. I used to say: “From Maui to Mongolia,
what was I thinking?”. But, truthfully, it was a great experience. Got a taste for overseas work and found a
position in Bamberg, Germany on a U.S. Army base with the Women Infant and Children’s Overseas program (WICO).
Back to Eugene, stateside after a few years of beer and pretzels and took a faculty position with Extension for
Oregon State University. Yes, a beaver in duck country, real popular! A few years later a plum of a job opened up with
WICO in Italy and I was powerless to resist. We lived in Aviano, Italy and worked on the US Air Force Base.
My region was Italy, Spain and Portugal. That was the swan song before retirement. Now here we are in Idaho
(yes, from Italy to Idaho) and we think Moscow is terrific. Hope to see you in July!
