Seriously … 50 years?? We aren’t nearly old enough to be gathering for our 50th MHS Reunion!
Recently I spent an entire evening on our http://mhsclassof67.com website, looking at our senior portraits and reading the bios or obituaries of each one of our class of ’67 friends. From all, those of us still walking the planet and those who have passed on, I remember how every one of you shaped my life in positive ways.
So, with great gratitude, I am looking forward to gathering with you all to collectively remember the blessings and adventures of our Moscow years together! Until then, here’s a bit of update …
Mike Lowe (MHS ’65) and I have now been “going together” for 54 years & married 48 years & are more in love than ever … and yes, how lucky I am to have Dick Lowe as brother-in-law! Our family includes:
3 - married children, all on their own turf yet within 25 minutes of our home
8 - spirited, creative, diverse & fun-loving grandchildren ages 17 - 6!!
After 29 years of teaching - Montana State University, Huntsville City Schools, and Alabama A&M University, I “refocused” (“retired” makes me feel old!) to work with our homeless and under-resourced people in inner-city Huntsville, many of whom are now dear friends. After serving 3 years as a Non-Profit Executive Director in community development with focus on education and employment readiness, I again “refocused” so Mike & I could spend more time volunteering, playing, enjoying family & friends and traveling … and favorite of all, simply being "Poppi" to our 8 grandchildren!
With rescued puppies & ponies & cats and other critters from our youngest son’s veterinary hospital, we live on a small farm – which many say is really more like a botanical garden! Any of you who live on a farm – large or small – know farm work never stops! So we are ready to waaaay down-size … I’m thinking 200 square feet on wheels while Mike is a bit more realistic and practical. Whatever the change, we’re up for the adventure!
Surprisingly, we are still located in the southern Appalachian area of northern Alabama near Huntsville where Mike was Chief Scientist for Science Applications International. If you are ever in the middle Tennessee (Nashville) or northern Alabama (Huntsville) areas, we’d love for you to stop for a visit. I promise, our area of Alabama is not what the media plays it to be … the Huntsville /Tennessee Valley area is an agrarian area known as the Silicon Valley of the South and is famous for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Army’s Restone Arsenal and the Hudson Alpha Institute for Bio-Technology as well as the beauty and sports activities of the southern end of the Appalachian Mountains. And Nashville’s music scene is only an easy hour and a half drive north!
We are thankful for opportunities to travel a good bit. At least a couple of times yearly we are in Moscow and the Coeur d’Alene area … and we’ve loved our visits in Lithuania, Ireland, Scotland, British Columbia plus our exploration of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, the coastal islands of North & South Carolina, Florida & Alabama, the San Juan Islands, and Baranof & Chichagof Islands near Sitka, Alaska. One of our many travel goals is to visit every “Moscow” in the US; there are 22 and so far we’ve been to Moscow, Maine & Moscow, Vermont. Moscow, Alabama is next … though forever our favorite will be Moscow, Idaho!
